About Michael S. Phillips

Michael S. Phillips graduated with honors from The University of Tennessee with a life sciences degree primarily focused on chemistry and biology in 2004 and Whittier Law School, with a concentration in Criminal Law, in 2008. Mr. Phillips was also admitted to the State Bar of California in 2008. Mr. Phillips, began practicing law as a Certified Law Clerk in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office at West Justice Center in Westminster, California, pursuant to California Rule of Court 9.42 while he was in law school.

While working with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, he prosecuted criminal cases ranging from misdemeanors to aggravated felonies. Mr. Phillips got ahead of the learning curve for young attorneys and jump started his career in criminal law by learning how cases are tactically and ethically prosecuted by local authorities.

As an attorney in private practice, Mr. Phillips has successfully defended thousands of clients in DUI cases as well as California Vehicle Code related matters throughout Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.

A Sophisticated Litigator

Mr. Phillips began his private practice as a sole practitioner. His first case was a complex felony held in federal court that involved a multi-million dollar interstate bank fraud scheme. Since that time, Mr. Phillips has built a reputation as a fearless and respected litigator by maximizing his training and development in the practice of criminal law in Southern California and applying the resulting superior skill set to earn victories in seemingly unwinnable cases.

Mr. Phillips partly attributes his exceptionally high rate of success in DUI cases to his experience arguing thousands of court trials and mastering the intricacies of the California Vehicle Code as an associate with a high-volume ticket defense firm in Orange County. As a partner with Mr. Landgren, Mr. Phillips argues several motion hearings and a jury trial each month to optimize the balance between preparation and maintenance of a polished set of trial skills.

Offering Better Representation

Mr. Phillips joined forces with The Law Offices of Todd Landgren in 2013, seeking to offer superior representation by implementing a managed caseload system that guarantees each case is carefully dissected to uncover every possible theory of defense and to provide each client with representation carefully tailored for each individual in a manner that averts and/or minimizes the life altering damage faced by every DUI defendant.

Mr. Phillips has been fully immersed in the defense of drunk driving and drug impaired driving cases in Orange County since leaving the Orange County District Attorney’s Office in 2007, mastering both the science and art of DUI defense. He is dedicated to continually refining his practice to stay ahead of changes in legislation, decisional law, and the prosecution.
